What is CVE-2026-31897?

The FreeRDP project, an open-source implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol, contains a vulnerability within the freerdp_bitmap_decompress_planar function. An out-of-bounds read occurs when the source size (SrcSize) is set to 0, resulting in the function dereferencing a pointer without validating the input size. This may lead to reading memory outside the intended buffer, posing a risk to the application's integrity and security. The issue is addressed in version 3.24.0, where proper checks have been implemented to prevent such occurrences.
