Remote Desktop Protocol Vulnerability in FreeRDP Affects Audio Redirection
CVE-2026-33977
What is CVE-2026-33977?
A vulnerability exists in FreeRDP, a widely-used implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. This issue allows a malicious RDP server to crash the FreeRDP client by sending invalid audio data in IMA ADPCM format. Specifically, the flaw arises from an unvalidated initial step index value, which, when indexed directly into a lookup table, results in a WINPR_ASSERT() failure and leads to a SIGABRT process termination. Notably, this vulnerability impacts any FreeRDP client that has audio redirection enabled, which is typically included in default configurations. Users are urged to update to version 3.24.2 or later to mitigate this risk.
