What is CVE-2026-40092?

A Denial of Service vulnerability exists in the Nimiq blockchain's Rust implementation where a malicious network peer can crash a full node. This occurs when an attacker publishes a specially crafted Kademlia DHT record containing an incorrectly sized signature field. The Nimiq full node's DHT verifier triggers a panic when attempting to validate the signature, leading to a node crash. This vulnerability affects versions 1.3.0 and earlier, and it has been resolved in version 1.4.0.
