What is CVE-2026-40196?

HomeBox, a home inventory and organization system, has a vulnerability in versions before 0.25.0 where the defaultGroup ID remains improperly assigned to users after access to a group is revoked. While the web interface restricts these users from viewing or modifying group content, the API inconsistently allows full CRUD operations, compromising intended access controls. This flaw arises from the inadequate validation of the defaultGroup value when the X-Tenant header is omitted, enabling unauthorized interactions with the group's collections. This issue has been addressed in version 0.25.0.
