What is CVE-2026-40486?

The Kimai time tracking application has a significant vulnerability affecting its User Preferences API, specifically in versions up to 2.52.0. This flaw allows an authenticated user to manipulate their own billing rates without proper authorization checks. Although certain fields, like hourly_rate and internal_rate, are intended to be restricted to users with specific roles, the API fails to enforce these restrictions. Consequently, this oversight permits any logged-in user to alter critical financial information, leading to potential unauthorized billing adjustments that could compromise invoice accuracy and affect timesheet calculations. This vulnerability has been addressed in version 2.53.0.
