What is CVE-2026-40508?

OpenEMR versions prior to 8.3.0 are susceptible to a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability located in the patient portal template import handler. Authenticated users with Forms Administration permissions can exploit this vulnerability by uploading template files that contain malicious HTML or JavaScript. These scripts are stored unfiltered and remain dormant until an affected Forms Administration user views the template via the HTML editor, potentially executing harmful scripts in their browser session. Proper sanitization of inputs during the template upload process is essential to mitigate this risk.
