What is CVE-2026-40509?

OpenEMR versions before 8.3.0 are vulnerable to a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) in the DICOM viewer, allowing attackers to leverage the unsanitized web_path GET parameter. By crafting a malicious URL, an attacker could exploit authorized users with 'Patients - Documents' permissions to make unwanted requests to OpenEMR's endpoints. This could result in actions such as forced logout or other unauthorized state changes that compromise user integrity and security.
