Denial-of-Service Vulnerability in RAR5 Archive Handling of Libarchive
CVE-2026-4111

7.5HIGH

What is CVE-2026-4111?

A vulnerability in the RAR5 archive decompression logic of the libarchive library allows attackers to exploit a flaw in the archive_read_data() processing path. This issue arises when a specially crafted RAR5 archive is processed, causing the decompression routine to enter an infinite loop, leading to excessive CPU resource consumption. Since the affected archives pass checksum validation, applications may be unable to detect the flaw, resulting in service disruptions for processes that automatically handle archive files.
