What is CVE-2026-42231?

n8n is an open-source workflow automation tool that was found to have a vulnerability in the xml2js library used for parsing XML requests. Prior to specific versions, the vulnerability allowed an authenticated user with permissions to exploit the webhook handler by sending a specially crafted XML payload. This would enable prototype pollution, potentially leading to remote code execution through subsequent Git node SSH operations. The issue has been resolved in the newer releases, urging users to update to versions 1.123.32, 2.17.4, or 2.18.1 to protect their systems.

Affected Version(s)

n8n < 1.123.32 < 1.123.32

n8n >= 2.17.0, < 2.17.4 < 2.17.0, 2.17.4

n8n >= 2.18.0, < 2.18.1 < 2.18.0, 2.18.1
