What is CVE-2026-43046?

A vulnerability in the Btrfs file system within the Linux kernel can lead to system crashes due to improper validation of root item metadata during relocation recovery. If the drop_progress.objectid is non-zero while drop_level is zero, it suggests possible on-disk data corruption that may not be caught during read operations. This results in the system hitting critical assertions, causing instability. A fix has been implemented to ensure that malformed metadata is identified and rejected, thus preventing potential disruptions during snapshot operations.
