What is CVE-2026-44034?

A heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the DcmRLECodecDecoder::decodeFrame() function of OFFIS DCMTK 3.7.0 allows attackers to access up to 63 bytes of adjacent heap memory when processing a specially crafted RLE Lossless DICOM file. The vulnerability arises from a failure to validate the length of the pixel data fragment before copying 64 bytes, potentially leading to information leakage or application crashes. Applications that decode RLE images frame by frame are particularly at risk. The recent fix has addressed this critical oversight.
