What is CVE-2026-46251?

A corruption vulnerability in the Btrfs file system of the Linux kernel can lead to a mishandling of the block group tree's dirty list. When the EXTENT_TREE_V2 incompatibility flag is enabled, adding the block group tree to the switch_commits list can introduce inconsistencies due to improper tracking of block group roots. This can ultimately result in transaction aborts and data loss when attempting to find root keys within the system, highlighting critical risks for environments relying on Btrfs for data management.
