What is CVE-2026-47733?

Rocket.Chat, a secure open-source communications platform, has a vulnerability in its ImageElement component prior to version 8.5.0. This flaw allows authenticated users to embed user-controlled URLs directly into image and link attributes without proper protocol sanitization. Unlike the protective measures applied in the analogous LinkSpan component, which blocks harmful protocols like javascript:, data:, and vbscript:, the ImageElement passes these URLs unfiltered, making it possible for an attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the viewer's browser session when the image is clicked. This issue poses significant security risks, particularly in older browser versions. The vulnerability has been addressed in version 8.5.0.

Affected Version(s)
