What is CVE-2026-48702?

The Rekor software, designed for supply chain transparency, contains a vulnerability in its handling of APK files. The 'Package.Unmarshal()' function fails to properly limit the size of decompressed data, leading to potential memory exhaustion when processing specially crafted gzip streams. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability through unauthenticated endpoints to trigger excessive memory allocation, resulting in runtime errors or system-wide out-of-memory crashes. Version 1.5.2 addresses this issue, and users are advised to upgrade immediately to mitigate risks.
