What is CVE-2026-49146?

The App::Ack tool, effective for searching files, is subject to a vulnerability where an improperly configured .ackrc file can lead to memory exhaustion. This occurs when options such as --before-context and --context are set to excessively high values, enabling attackers to allocate vast amounts of memory and potentially crash the application. As ack searches the directory hierarchy for .ackrc files, a project using an untrusted .ackrc can trigger an out-of-memory condition, making it crucial for users to ensure proper file configurations and update to version 3.10.0 or later to mitigate this risk.

Affected Version(s)

App::Ack 0 < 3.10.0
