What is CVE-2026-53524?

A vulnerability in the WeeChat relay module allows an authenticated relay user to exploit the permessage-deflate decompression function, relay_websocket_inflate(). It lacks an upper limit on output size, enabling the user to send a small compressed WebSocket frame that unpacks into enormous data sizes. This can lead to memory exhaustion of the server, potentially crashing the entire WeeChat process. The issue has been patched in version 4.9.1.
