What is CVE-2026-56396?

A vulnerability exists in phpMyFAQ versions prior to 4.1.4 where the editUser() and updateUserRights() endpoints do not properly enforce authorization checks. This allows authenticated non-SuperAdmin administrators to manipulate user privileges, including the ability to set the is_superadmin flag or grant arbitrary rights, effectively escalating their access to SuperAdmin status. This shortcoming poses a risk as it undermines the intended access control mechanisms, allowing for unauthorized privilege modifications.
