What is CVE-2026-57440?

The EmbedVideo Extension for MediaWiki introduces a severe security risk in versions prior to 4.1.0. When the configuration setting $wgEmbedVideoRequireConsent is disabled, the extension fails to sanitize video URLs before passing them into an iframe src attribute. This oversight allows attackers to inject malicious scripts by crafting malformed URLs or identifiers, thus making it possible to manipulate the HTML output. The vulnerability highlights the necessity for using the patched version (4.1.0) to enhance system security and protect against exploitation.
