What is CVE-2026-58166?

The OpenBMB ChatDev application through version 2.2.0 is affected by a path traversal vulnerability that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to manipulate file upload operations. By sending a malicious multipart filename to the file upload endpoint, attackers can exploit the inadequate sanitization of destination paths. This enables them to overwrite or delete arbitrary files on the server, leading to significant security risks. A fix has been implemented in commit 4fd4da6 to mitigate this vulnerability. It is crucial for users to update to the latest version to prevent potential exploitation.

Affected Version(s)

ChatDev 0 <= 2.2.0

ChatDev 0 <= 2.2.0

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
