What is CVE-2026-62996?

The Smarty template engine for PHP, versions 5.0.0 to 5.8.4, contains a flaw in handling stream resource names that allows unauthorized access to arbitrary local files by exploiting misconfigured template resource references. This type of vulnerability can lead to the disclosure of sensitive file contents, compromising the security of applications using the Smarty engine. The issue has been rectified in version 5.8.4.
