What is CVE-2026-63201?

The Netopeer2 server, used for network configuration management via the NETCONF protocol, is susceptible to a specific denial of service vulnerability. A low-privileged authenticated NETCONF user can exploit this flaw by sending a malformed get RPC request with an invalid subtree filter containing format specifiers. This results in the netopeer2-server crashing, as the flawed request path leads to unsafe handling of the received data. This vulnerability was confirmed in version 2.8.7, and although the possibility of remote code execution was explored, it was not substantiated. Version 2.8.21 has the fixes for this issue, but the status of version 2.8.8 remains unclear due to the lack of a public tag.

Affected Version(s)

netopeer2 < 2.8.21
