What is CVE-2026-63294?

A link following vulnerability in LXD enables attackers to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on the host system. The flaw arises during the import or unpacking of specifically crafted image or backup archives, where LXD inadequately validates and confines the backup.yaml file when it exists as a symbolic link. This oversight allows an attacker to exploit the system by delivering a malicious archive that contains a symlinked backup.yaml file, ultimately leading to execution of unconfined configuration metadata.
