Linux Kernel Vulnerability Affecting Write Streaming Functionality
CVE-2026-64158
What is CVE-2026-64158?
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netfs module impacted the handling of write streaming functions. Specifically, write streaming was disabled under certain conditions such as when file descriptors were opened with O_RDWR, or if content encryption was enabled. This behavior prevented effective data caching and posed a risk of encountering issues in read operations following write actions. The vulnerability has been addressed by removing the unnecessary checks that previously restricted write streaming under these scenarios, thereby improving the efficiency of data handling and avoiding potential inconsistencies.
