A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iwlwifi driver affects older Intel wireless devices, specifically the 7265D model. This issue arises from an incorrect handling of transmission (TX) rates, where older devices still use the version 1 format for encoding rates, which does not align with the newer protocols. The transition to version 3 rates inadvertently broke beacon rates, leading to potential crashes or firmware asserts. The resolution aims to properly manage these beacon rates in the command sets, restoring correct operation in transmission and ensuring compatibility with legacy devices.
