What is CVE-2026-64244?

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management system led to risks during device registration. When the __add_memory_block() function encounters failure, a sequence of operations can leave the mem->altmap improperly set. This flaw may prompt warnings and compromise the stability of the memory management operations, particularly when triggered by changes in the virtio-mem driver configuration. The issue arises from a timing problem that delays the assignment of mem->altmap until after a successful memory block addition.
