What is CVE-2026-65979?

The OpenEXR image format, crucial for the motion picture industry, contains a significant flaw in its HTJ2K decoder. Versions 3.4.0 to 3.4.12 do not adequately validate the header-length field (PLEN) from compressed data. This oversight allows attackers to exploit the vulnerability when decoding untrusted EXR files, potentially leading to out-of-bounds memory reads. This risk is resolved in version 3.4.13. Ensuring that your applications are upgraded can mitigate exposure to this type of attack.

Affected Version(s)

openexr >= 3.4.0, < 3.4.13
