What is CVE-2026-6694?

A vulnerability has been identified in the file-png plugin of GIMP, where a remote attacker can exploit the plugin by submitting a specially crafted Animated Portable Network Graphics (APNG) image. This image includes an oversized tRNS chunk that triggers a stack-based buffer overflow (CWE-121). As a consequence, this vulnerability can cause the file-png plugin to crash, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) scenario for users.
