Btrfs Root Leak Mitigation in Linux Kernel by Vendor Linux
CVE-2026-68422
What is CVE-2026-68422?
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel, specifically within the Btrfs file system, has been identified involving a root leak due to an unexpected relocation root. When encountering an unforeseen reloc_root during the merging of relocate roots in Btrfs, the system fails to correctly release the obtained reference for the root. This oversight results in a memory leak as the reference to the root remains unaccounted for. To resolve this issue, a critical 'btrfs_put_root()' call has been introduced, ensuring that references are properly managed and memory integrity is maintained.
