What is CVE-2026-68908?

The libIEC61850 library, an open-source implementation of IEC 61850 protocols, contains a vulnerability where the reporting mechanism permits an oversized RptID greater than 129 bytes. This flaw resides in the report-control-block write path, where improper handling of the oversized identifier can lead to a server crash. Specifically, when the sendNextReportEntrySegment function processes this oversized RptID, it can free a stack-allocated buffer incorrectly, allowing a remote attacker to trigger an invalid free. This issue has been addressed in version 1.6.2 of the library.
