What is CVE-2026-74872?

The OpenSSL_Encrypt component prior to version 1.4.0 is vulnerable to an arbitrary code execution attack due to a flaw in its Whirlpool hash implementation. The vulnerability arises when the system processes broad glob patterns that allow unauthenticated attackers to load malicious .so files from site-packages directories. By placing specially crafted .so files matching the whirlpoolpy313.so filename pattern, an attacker can execute native code when the vulnerable module is loaded. This risk necessitates prompt upgrading to secure versions to mitigate potential exploitation.

Affected Version(s)

openssl_encrypt 0 < 1.4.0

openssl_encrypt 1.4.0
