What is CVE-2026-77572?

VeraCrypt, a disk encryption tool based on TrueCrypt, contains a vulnerability in versions 1.26.29 and earlier where specific IOCTL handlers within the veracrypt.sys driver allow local users to access broader object-manager and device paths than intended. This could enable an attacker to perform unauthorized kernel-context symbolic-link or disk-device lookups, potentially revealing sensitive information such as drive-letter targets, partition details, disk geometry, and other object-manager metadata. Users should update to the latest version to mitigate these risks.

Affected Version(s)

VeraCrypt <= 1.26.29
