What is CVE-2026-80897?

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netfs subsystem allows for improper handling of readahead folios during iterator preparation failures. When the netfs_prepare_read_iterator() function batches these folios, it should ensure that references are appropriately released if an error occurs. Failure to do so can lead to resource leaks and potential performance degradation, as references remain held unnecessarily. This issue has been addressed in subsequent updates to ensure proper resource management.
