What is CVE-2026-81692?

A vulnerability exists in OpenSSL Encrypt versions 1.4.8 and earlier where improper validation of the 36-bit STREAMINFO total_samples field in crafted FLAC files can lead to extensive memory allocation. A malicious user can exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially designed FLAC file that claims to contain approximately 100 million samples, resulting in a significant memory allocation and ultimately a denial of service during decryption attempts. This issue has been addressed in version 1.4.9 and users are strongly advised to update to this version or later to mitigate the risk.
