Terminal Injection Vulnerability in OpenSSL_Encrypt Product by OpenSSL
CVE-2026-81695
9.3CRITICAL
What is CVE-2026-81695?
A terminal injection vulnerability exists in versions of openssl_encrypt prior to 1.4.9. This issue arises from the failure to properly escape attacker-controlled key_id values printed to stderr during the decrypt auto-detection process. As a result, an attacker can craft encrypted files that include malicious key_id containing escape sequences, potentially allowing them to manipulate terminal output and forge authenticity verification blocks, which can seriously undermine system security.
Affected Version(s)
openssl_encrypt 0 < 1.4.9
openssl_encrypt 1.4.9
