Sensitive Information Exposure in OpenSSL-Encrypt by GitHub
CVE-2026-81705
8.7HIGH
What is CVE-2026-81705?
The OpenSSL-Encrypt product prior to version 1.4.9 has a vulnerability that fails to properly redact file passwords in debug output when supplied using certain short and long option spellings. This oversight allows an attacker or malicious user with access to stderr outputs—such as terminal history, CI job logs, or the GUI's debug log—to see passwords in cleartext. This could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, as sensitive information is unintentionally disclosed through normal debug operations.
