What is CVE-2026-82961?

The GPIO drivers within the Zephyr RTOS contain a vulnerability that allows user-mode threads to bypass essential pin validation checks. The faulty implementations of the GPIO syscall handlers did not adequately verify the pin argument from user-mode callers, enabling possible out-of-bounds writes in the kernel memory. This flaw exposes the system to potential arbitrary code execution, crashes, or further security breaches. Recent patches have introduced necessary validations to ensure that user-supplied pin values conform to the controller's supported pins, aiming to mitigate risks of memory corruption.
