SFTP Backend Vulnerability in gvfs from GNOME
CVE-2026-84268
8.8HIGH
What is CVE-2026-84268?
A security vulnerability exists in the SFTP backend of gvfs that allows a malicious SFTP server to manipulate the response length during file reads. This manipulation can lead to the processing of a length that exceeds the expected buffer size, resulting in an overflow condition. Consequently, this flaw can corrupt adjacent heap memory within the gvfsd-sftp process. When this corruption is detected, it causes a denial of service as the process aborts. Additionally, there is a risk that this vulnerability could be exploited to execute arbitrary code by leveraging the corrupted memory state.
