Path Traversal Vulnerability in OpenSCAP Software by Red Hat
CVE-2026-85518
6.1MEDIUM
What is CVE-2026-85518?
A vulnerability exists in OpenSCAP during the decomposition of Source DataStream (SDS) files, which fails to adequately validate relative file path attributes. This oversight allows attackers to craft a manipulated datastream containing directory traversal sequences. When successfully exploited, this can lead to unauthorized file creation or modifications outside the designated target directory, operating under the permissions of the process running OpenSCAP. This compromises data integrity and poses substantial security risks.
