What is CVE-2026-85591?

An authentication bypass vulnerability has been detected in the user control panel API endpoint of phpMyFAQ versions prior to 4.1.8. This issue allows authenticated attackers to alter account passwords without the need to verify the current password. By submitting a PUT request to the user data update endpoint, including only a CSRF token, attackers are able to change any user's password, inclusive of administrative accounts, leading to irreversible account takeovers and potential lockouts for victims. It is crucial for users to upgrade to the latest version to mitigate this risk.
