What is CVE-2026-86733?

The Snipe-IT application before version 8.7.0 is susceptible to SQL command injection when a malicious superadministrator uploads a crafted backup ZIP file and executes a restore operation. If the optional clean parameter is not utilized, the application streams SQL entries directly to the MySQL/MariaDB command-line interface (mysql) without the necessary --binary-mode flag. This oversight enables the unauthorized execution of OS commands through backslash commands, potentially compromising sensitive application data, database credentials, and leading to unauthorized changes in application files. Version 8.7.0 mitigates this vulnerability by incorporating the --binary-mode flag.
