What is CVE-2026-86996?

n8n is an open source workflow automation platform that had a security vulnerability related to its Agent tool functionality. In versions before 2.37.7 and 2.38.2, the workflow setting 'This workflow can be called by' was enforced by the Execute Workflow node, but not when workflows were associated with an Agent. This flaw allowed a malicious user capable of building an Agent to invoke restricted workflows, potentially gaining access to sensitive data returned by those workflows. The issue has been rectified in the mentioned versions.
