What is CVE-2026-88046?

A vulnerability in Rclone allows an attacker to exploit parent-directory segments in source Object.Remote() values. This could enable unauthorized access to files and directories across specified cloud storage services, potentially allowing sensitive data to escape the defined root directory and reach other accessible storage areas or paths. The issue impacts multiple storage backends, including b2, swift, and smb, among others. The vulnerability has been resolved in Rclone version 1.75.1, which implements checks to reject these segments before they are processed.
