Heap Corruption Vulnerability in Tesseract OCR Engine
CVE-2026-88049
8.6HIGH
What is CVE-2026-88049?
The Tesseract OCR Engine, an open source optical character recognition (OCR) tool, is susceptible to a heap corruption vulnerability in versions up to 5.5.3. The issue arises due to insufficient bounds checks in the NetworkIO methods during the handling of LSTM layers. Specifically, if a malicious actor crafts an NT_LSTM layer, it can manipulate the output to exceed expected dimensional limits, leading to heap out-of-bounds writes. This can result in heap corruption and crashes or potentially allow for controlled corruption during processing. No fix is currently available, making it critical for users of affected versions to exercise caution.
Affected Version(s)
tesseract <= 5.5.3
