What is CVE-2026-88924?

A security flaw exists in the gvfs admin backend that allows local attackers to exploit a Time-of-Check Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) race condition. This vulnerability arises when the gvfsd-admin daemon modifies the ownership of private D-Bus sockets, potentially leading to a critical compromise of system integrity. By manipulating the ownership of these sockets through a symbolic link to an arbitrary root-owned file, an authenticated attacker can escalate their privileges to root level, enabling them to modify vital system configurations and resources.
