What is CVE-2026-89760?

A vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel related to hibernation slot management. Specifically, the issue arises when a hibernation slot containing a folio in the swap cache is improperly freed, leading to silent memory corruption. This vulnerability can trigger process crashes or data instability across unrelated userspace applications, particularly during hibernation image preparation. The incorrect management of folios can result in the folio becoming unreachable from the swap table while remaining on the LRU, which may cause unexpected behaviors as offsets are reassigned in memory. Adequate checks on cached folios are vital to prevent this issue, ensuring that hibernation slots are left in a stable state.
