CNAME Caching Flaw in dnsmasq Affects Network Security
CVE-2026-93008
6.8MEDIUM
What is CVE-2026-93008?
A vulnerability in dnsmasq allows for the caching of CNAME target records without proper authorization checks. This situation can arise in split-DNS configurations where specific domains are forwarded to designated upstream servers. If an attacker gains control of this upstream server, they can manipulate cached entries, leading clients to receive deceptive addresses for unrelated domain names. This flaw compromises the integrity of DNS responses, which can be exploited for phishing attacks or redirection to malicious sites.
