What is CVE-2026-93349?

The Frictionless Data Package through version 5.20.0rc1 contains a vulnerability that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary operating system commands. This exploitation occurs through the 'explore' console command when a user interacts with a crafted Data Package descriptor. Attackers can infiltrate shell metacharacters within the resource path values of a 'datapackage.json' file. These unsanitized inputs are subsequently passed to 'os.system', permitting command execution in the security context of the user invoking the command. This vulnerability presents significant risks, especially when users process untrusted data packages.

Affected Version(s)

frictionless-py 0 <= 5.20.0rc1

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
