CPER Ring Vulnerability in Linux Kernel Affects AMD Graphics Processing Units
CVE-2026-98894
What is CVE-2026-98894?
A vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel that affects the handling of the AMD CPER ring, specifically related to corrupt entry sizes. When processing CPER ring overflows, the system may misinterpret corrupted data, causing the read pointer to fail to advance properly. This can result in the worker thread, which is responsible for writing subsequent CPER records, becoming unresponsive. To mitigate the issue, the kernel now detects scenarios where the read pointer shows no progress, allowing the CPER ring to be reset to a clean state. This effectively discards the corrupt contents and enables the system to function normally.
