Linux Kernel Vulnerability in Tracing Functionality
CVE-2026-99234
What is CVE-2026-99234?
An issue exists in the Linux kernel's tracing functionality where the unregistering of field variable histograms does not occur correctly when a command fails. Specifically, if a field is named on another event and the command encounters an error, the corresponding histogram remains active and continues tracking events even after its associated trigger is freed. This can lead to a scenario where triggers are untracked, potentially causing unexpected behavior in event logging and system monitoring. To resolve this, it is necessary to ensure the proper unregistration of histograms in the failure path and to track them correctly during their lifecycle to avoid double freeing.
