What is CVE-2018-25324?

The Simple Fields plugin versions 0.2 to 0.3.5 for WordPress contains a local file inclusion vulnerability. Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this weakness by injecting null bytes into the wp_abspath parameter, allowing them to read sensitive files on the server, such as /etc/passwd. This vulnerability also poses a risk for remote code execution if the 'allow_url_include' option is enabled in PHP, as attackers could manipulate the wp_abspath parameter to include malicious PHP code from unfettered sources.

Affected Version(s)

Simple Fields 0.2 - 0.3.5

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
